What is Domestic Money Transfer?

Domestic Money Transfer (DMT) lets a customer send money to a bank account anywhere in India from an agent or retail counter. It is especially useful for people who do not use internet or mobile banking themselves.

The usual flow

The exact steps depend on the provider, but a transfer usually looks like this:

  • The sender is registered and verified
  • The beneficiary's bank account details are added
  • The sender confirms the amount and the transfer is submitted
  • The sender receives a transaction reference and status

Good practice at the counter

Double-check the beneficiary account number and bank details with the customer before submitting. Always hand over the transaction reference, and ask customers to keep it until the money is received.

Why customers value it

DMT gives families and workers a nearby, familiar place to send money home. For your business, it is a service customers return to regularly.
