Why safety habits matter

Most payment fraud relies on tricking people rather than breaking technology. A few consistent habits at your counter go a long way.

Seven habits to follow

  • Never ask for or share an OTP, PIN, password or card CVV
  • Let customers authenticate with their own fingerprint — never on their behalf
  • Confirm the amount aloud with the customer before submitting
  • Always give the customer a transaction reference or receipt
  • Keep your devices and apps updated from official sources
  • Do not let others use your login or agent credentials
  • Report anything unusual to your provider straight away

Watch out for impersonation

Be cautious of anyone who calls or messages claiming to be from your provider or a bank and asks for codes or remote access. Genuine teams will not ask for your OTP or PIN.
